Nupur started out independently with creating, writing & directing several television dramas like the cult teen series Hip Hip Hurray (Zee Tv), Hubahu (Sony Ent) & MahiWay (Sony Ent).
Both the feature films that she directed, Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge & Bewakoofiyaan, as well as the series Mahiway (Sony Ent), were produced by Yashraj Films. On streaming Nupur has directed an adaptation of Romeo & Juliet with an LGBTQ+ twist Romil & Jugal; Season 2 of the hugely popular Four More Shots Please.
She also directed 2 short films as part of two anthologies for Amazon Prime – The Couple as part of Unpaused Naya Safar and Cutting Chai for the anthology Modern Love Mumbai. She recently directed 2 episodes of The Royals on Netflix.
Nupur’s stories usually have dollops of emotion and drama dealt with a light hand. Her work often deals with a search for identity; and she loves to explore interpersonal relationships.
Her narratives regularly involve a deep dive into urban young people finding themselves in muddy waters & wading back to the shore, changed & grown. Having grown up & lived in all four corners of India – Kolkata, Hyderabad, Delhi & Mumbai, Nupur has a unique understanding of urban India & human nature.
The warmth, poignancy, compassion and gentle humour that run through her work have won both hearts of audiences and critical acclaim. She is currently in development for her next feature film & an OTT series.
